Visual general tank surface inspection.
Visual inspection from ladder and tank top, of all bulkheads / tank top and underdeck
Special attention on discolorations , welds , etc.

Passivity test:
Testing the passivity ( the protective chromium oxide layer) of the stainless steel.
Passive readings indicates a stainless steel surface which is corrosion resistant according to spec of maker.
Active readings indicates a surface which is not corrosion resistance and a high risk of pitting corrosion or general corrosion
( from superficial corrosion up to elephant skin ).
In case of active stainless steel surface, chemical passivation is urgently required / recommended.

Oxilyser test

Sutface Roughness test:
Testing the roughness of the surface after grinding / buffing or after heavy general corrosion.
High roughness will accumulate impurities which will cause deeper corrosion or pitting corrosion
High roughness will increase cleaning time because cargo residue will stick deeper in / on the surface.
Standard Roughness for clad steel (2 – 3 mm stainless steel) Ra between 0,5 µ and 2.0 µ
Standard roughness for solid stainless steel Ra between 3,0 µ and 4,5 µ
Pitting corrosion and corrosion causing high roughness will not be removed by chemical cleaning.
Mechanical surface treatment ( welding / grinding, sanding buffing / blasting ) is the only way to get rid of the roughness and to get the surface back in the original state.

Surface Rouhgness test

Ferroxyl test:
The Ferroxyl test for free iron is a highly sensitive test method for a local check of iron residues on stainless steel surfaces.
Testing the stainless steel surface if any free iron is remaining on the surface.
These impurities (can) damage the passive layer and the stainless steel will become subject to corrosion in the (near) future.
High quantities of findings require pickling and passivation.

Ferroxyl test

Chemical test:
To avoid huge costs and delays, INOX Surface Treatment BV always will try to find the quickest and most economical solution to solve corrosion / cargo problems.
Our experience learns that nearly all cargo residues and discolorations can be removed with chemicals.
After testing with several chemicals, INOX can provide a cleaning procedure (time , concentrations, temperature and necessary chemicals ) to get your cargo tank / piping system operational and in good condition again (ready for cargo).

Chemical test


INOX will provide extended inspection report with test results, pictures and in case needed striking details per tank. Report will include recommendations for cleaning / repair advice (if needed) to be carried out immediately or in the (near) future.
